Companies around the world have been holding meetings in a remote format for a long time, optimizing the work of offline and online employees. Special applications help in this, especially Zoom Meeting – one of the most popular and used. It has many different functions and features, in particular, in this article we will analyze how to turn off the sound at a conference using a desktop or mobile platform in Zoom.
Disabling incoming sounds
During the conference, the user has the opportunity to turn off incoming sounds using different methods. This can be done through the functionality of the device, or, more effectively, the settings of the application itself. Let’s take a closer look at all possible ways.
On a computer
The program provides the ability to mute the sound for all conference participants at once. However, only the organizer of the meeting or the one to whom the organizer has transferred administrator rights can do this. In addition to managing the audio broadcast, the administrator can manage the waiting room, turn on or off the video broadcast. Ordinary users have the ability to control the parameter only within their own devices and conferences.
If you do not know how to turn off the sound in Zoom and turn it on again on your computer, then carefully read the information below. In an already started conference, to turn off the audio broadcast, hover over the microphone icon and click on the arrow next to it. In the drop-down list, select “Turn off computer sound”. In the same way, you can return the broadcast.
The organizer can turn off the broadcast for each of the participants individually. To do this, select the desired name from the list and click on the “Mute” button that appears when you hover the cursor over the name. Also, the organizer can turn off the audio for everyone at once. In this case, the option to enable it will be possible only with the personal desire of each user.
Go to settings via the gear icon and go to the “Sound” tab. Opposite the “dynamics” item there is a slider that can be removed to a minimum. Use the system settings to also remove the broadcast. They are located in the lower right corner of the taskbar on the speaker icon.
On a mobile device
The same methods of deactivating audio are also available on the mobile platform. However, there are much more restrictions here. We recommend using the tools inside the conference, as other methods may not be effective.
During the conversation, if you need to reduce the noise level, click on the speaker icon in the upper left corner of the screen. You can return the broadcast by clicking on the icon again. Just like in the desktop version, the organizers of the meeting, or users with such rights, have the authority to turn off the audio broadcast individually or for all participants at once. You can also do this through the “Participants” list.
Individual disconnection is performed opposite the name of each of those present. To remove audio from everyone at once, click on the three dots in the lower right corner. A window will appear with the button “Turn off the sound for everyone”. After turning off the audio, do not forget to move the slider “Allow participants to turn on their own sound”.
You can also remove the broadcast from the application settings. To do this, go to settings and select “Automatic audio connection” in the “Conferences” section. Turn off this option and confirm your actions with the “done” button. The system’s capabilities also involve disabling audio. The easiest thing is to move the volume slider to the minimum.
Mute the microphone
Also, not everyone knows how to turn off the microphone sound at a Zoom conference in order to limit the sound transmission from their side. To do this, there is a special button in the form of a microphone in the lower left part of the screen. The change in the status of sound and broadcast will be noticeable to everyone who takes part in the meeting.
